i've checked out the posts about money so i think i get what the situation is. i'll change a bit at the airport to get into the city. i want to leave the same day to go to maracay; is there a thriving black market scene there (or on the henri pittier beaches)? or should i change a bunch of money in caracas first? keeping in mind i wont know the city, is there an easy/decent rate/non sketchy place that is not too far out of my way between the airport and bus station for maracay (by public transport)? also should i be headed to la bandera to catch the bus to maracay or is there another more intelligent option? thanks!

Avoid caracas as much as you can and if you travel through La Bandera, do it by day time. Exchange enough money at the airport to get to your first destination/ a couple of hundreds should do it easily/ then find a safe place to exchange more where you are going to stay. What draws you to Maracay and the north-western part of Venezuela? The most beautiful beaches and less frequented by tourists are from Puerto Piritu to Santa Fe on the eastern side of the country. Google Earth the place before you decide. The north western beaches have more rocky features and way much more garbage than our region. So long for now,

An easy and safe way to come to HenryPittier and Choroni is to reserve a choroni-taxi direct from the airport to Choroni (a 4 hours trip 500BSF), you can find the information in the [http://choroni.info] site and the taxi driver(Nino) can help you with changing money at the airport.
The www.dollar.nu</a> site gives you all the information about changing money today.
You can also send me an email at theobeek@yahoo.com (casa MyWay Choroni)

I agree with Theo and Odette, the easiest way to get to Choroni in the HP National Park, is to hire a private land transfer, that way your journey wil be a much easier and smoother one. If you really have to take the bus from La Bandera to Maracay due to budget purposes, do so suring the day since it is a dodgy place. As for exchanging money you may exchange some at the airport for the fist leg of your trip (CCS-MCY-HP) and then exchange some more in Choroni with someone you fell you can trust: ie: a decent posada. If you arrive late at night the first option (private land transfer) woulod certainly work best.

Travl safe,

All the best!
