Bring dollars and get bolivars in the black market. You will be get only 50% of the money if you get bolivars from the ATM.

Hola Saxonsa,

Please bear in mind that the government here has imposed excahnge controls; that means that it is impossible to get US $ in the country. The only way is to do it on the black market. it is actually illegal, but everyone is in on the act. Just exchange money with people you know. No strangers! If you are to withdraw money from an ATM you will only get Bolivares at the rate of Bs. 4.3 for 1US $. Black market rate is about Bs 8.00 for 1 US $.

As a tip, try not to look to touristy, save your sandals for when you are on tour, don't wear them in the city. Do NOT wear expensive items such as sunglasses or jewelry, and do NOt carry much cash around with you. And always carry a copy of your passport.

Travel safe,

All the best,
