I flew with aeropostal from POS to Caracas 2 years ago, then on to Merida with another venezuelan budget airline. Be prepared for delays, and I had to overnight in Caracas on the way there.

I think Merida airstrip is closed now though??Anyone? Think the budget airlines are fewer and fewer too.
Not sure if the flight still runs, try the Aeropostal website or phone them or see a travel agent. Merida is great.

Hi Suzva,

You may fly from Port of Spain to Caracas and then onto Merida either by plane or by bus. Alternatively you could get the ferry from Port of Spain to Guiria in the Sucre state of Venezuela and then get the bus to Caracas. This will definitely take you more than 24 hours. Then you can go onto Merida by bus. It all depends on how much time you have to spare and of course on your budget. There are some very nice beaches between Guiria and Caracas, if you have time you can stop to check them out. As for flights to Merida, you would have to fly into El Vigia, which is approx. 1 hour by car from Merida, as the Merida airport is currently closed.

Travel safe!

All the best,
