Hi I am travelling to Venezuela for 3 weeks with two other friends (all 27 years old) on Saturday and we are planning travel around a fair bit. We are hoping to visit one of the National Parks ( either Henri Pittier or Morrocoy ) and then head on to Mérida/Coro. Then towards the end of the trip we was to relax on one of the islands ( Isla Margarita or Los Roques ).

So my questions are:

  • Would people recommend visiting Henri Pittier or Morrocoy National Park and is there a recommended place to stay?

  • Would people recommend Isla Margarita or Los Roques for a relaxing end to the trip? A little bit of night life would be great but we realise that these aren't party islands.

  • Is there a way of getting to Angel Falls that doesn't involved much walking as one of our group can only walk short distances? (I hear that there is a 1-hour trek from the air strip?)

Thanks in advance for your help,

Robin

Hi. I have actually been just to the Henri Pittier NP but before going I was making the same choosing. I ruled out the Morrocoy NP as I read that the corals there are dead due to oil spills from Paraquana peninsula (yet, I have read that since the time of my visit the beaches of Puerto Colombia were also affected) and also due to nice rainforest also available in the Henri Pittier NP.

Anyway, we have done our trek in November 2009 and I have put on the internet quite a detailed report about our Venezuela trip where you can find details about our experince in the Henri Pittier NP - if interested check it out at.. my site .

Have a nice trip.

Hola Robin,

This post probably comes a bot to late. My apologies.

I would go to the Choroni in the Henri Pittier. Fewer people and very nice beaches.

I would definitely go to Los Roques. Perhaps more expensive than Margarita, but some amazing beaches. Few bars that open till 1:00a.m.

The last 15 minutes of the trek leading up to the Laime Vantage Point, close to the base of the Angel Falls from the camp opposite the Falls, get a bit steep as you have to climb over roots and scramble up some big rocks.

Travel safe,

Thomas
