I visited Angel Falls a few weeks ago, and met a very dedicated doctor who is currently the sole medical practioner for Canaima (the town nearest to Angel Falls) and the surrounding area. Dr Said Lopez is from the US & Belize & is volunteering through a Cuban nonprofit to staff this community health center (the Ambulatorio de Canaima), but the Venezuelan government has allocated the clinic almost no resources for supplies or equipment. This small clinic services 9000 local people, plus all visitors to Canaima. The doctor has no nursing or back-up staff, is on call 24 hours a day and is in desperate need of basic items.

If you are going to Angel Falls, please consider buying a few of these supplies and dropping them off at the clinic. It's an easy way to give something back to the people who live here, and most of these items can be purchased in drugstores in Ciudad Bolivar before your flight:

*ibuprofin, acetaminophen/paracetamol or other generic painkillers
*glucose meters & strips
*insulin syringes
*pregnancy & HIV tests
*gauze
*latex gloves
*oral antibiotics
*face masks

Superstars can donate:
*a laptop for recordkeeping
*anti-virus software
*books in English or Spanish (for his rare free time)

Thanks!
