Hi there!

Again and again. Same question! ;-)
We´re going next week to Venezuela. How are you experencies about Euros? Or do you recommend US $ for exchange. And the same question like before about the rate. How is it at the moment? Somebody down there in Venezuela?

Looking as well for informations going in a safe way from Caracas Airport to the busterminal (going to Merida with the night bus). We are arriving at 6 p.m. in Caracas

Muchas Gracias

You will get a bit less than the rates shown on the link below. The middleman has to make a profit otherwise he would not be doing the job.

November 1, 2008 the VZ bank rate(ATM) was 2.147 VEF for one dollar-USD.
My friends in Caracas say the black market rate is 4.2 to 4.3 fuertes to the
US dollar. The black market is totally supply and demand, so it changes on
a daily, if not hourly, basis. Hugo Chavez is rigging the game in his favor if
you use his banks, like about 50% ripoff. Bring euros or dollars and shop
around.

So basically, unless I was rich & stupid, I need to bring loads of cash in US Dollars (or Euros)?

(into the new murder capital of the world!)

Yesterday I was offered a 5 to 1 exchange in Porlamar, Isla Margarita. That could have been some sorte of scam, but 4 to 1 is definately possible. I could bite my ass that I did not bring any more Dollars or Euros, but I didnt know about that before -.-

Don´t know the current exchange rate for Euros though

Yes,
Bring loads of cash in big bills. (100s are best) US dollars are easier than euros.
Hide them on your body.

Have a good trip

I really wonder whether it is the goal to have high criminality to prevent foreigners taking piles of cash and having to use the official ripoff-exchange or whether the fixed rate is in place to force tourists travelling with lots of cash and therefore being an easy target for robbers.

The www.dollar.nu</a> gives also the (every day)rate at the airport.

Ok, thanks everyone, that that sorted.

Any of you able to advise on the chances of getting _into Venezuela from Colombia on a UK passport without a visa? _

I'll be landing in Caracas from from UK (no problem - visa on arrival) then visiting Colombia overland (no visa problems either) but then wil be re-entering Venezuela overland from Colombia, to fly home. According to the embassy website you can't get visa on arrival overland....

Wonderiing if the fact I'll have a flight out of Venezuela (on an E-ticket though!) will help? Fairly fairly good at talkimg my way through problems, but not so confident when my flight home is at stake!!

@threadopener: About the 2nd part of your question: Take the shuttle from the national airport to the city and then a taxi to a bus terminal. if you arrive at 6pm it might be difficult to catch a bus the same day. The last buses leave around 9.30 pm I would say.
