hi folks

i am planning to stay in Caracas for a long weekend- once i finish there i was thinking of trying a few day trips to places..... any recommendations?
what is Puerto columbia like? nice beaches and parties? iv heard it may be difficult to get to the nice beaches- is this true?
i would really like to go to Los Roques but it seems to be very expensive to get here- $200 return flights?
does anyone know any cheaper ways to get there rather than swim!!:)

any advice would be great!

Hello R,

Choroni/Puerto Colombia is a great option, nevertheless I recommend spending more than a day there because it is quite a drive to get there. Beaches are dead easy to get to, just take a 'peñero', fishing boat from the pier in Puerto Colombia to some of the beaches nearby, such as Uricao, Chuao, Cepe..or my favourite Tuja.
Other options for day trips are: Colonia Tovar, a small german town in the mountains of Aragua. Morrocoy National Park nad its lovely keys (islands) home to a great number of nice beaches.
Close to Caracas to can get to the Alfredo Jahn Cave system, a great adventure not for the fainty hearted. Only accesible in the rainy season.

Hope you find this info useful.

Drop me a line should you have any further questions.

All the best,
