Hola Mochileros,
I found your comments on the Lonely Planet website. Cool and thanks. I 'm going to Venezuela in November 2009. I am from the Czech Republic. I do not have current information about prices from Czech web pages. I have a very limited budget and big plans. Roraima trek, Salto Angel, Orinoco Delta, Merida, Caribbean (island) Length of stay is 1 month. It is fair to cope with all this 1000 USD? Maybe just using the black rate of the dollar, right? Or shall incorporate a larger amount of money? What is for example the current price of a trip to Salto Angel from Ciudad Bolivar? (Flight to Canaima and ship + trek under Salto Angel?). Where is the best go to Roraima, and how many dollars is now organized trek?
If you can answer my questions, I will be very happy. Very thank you.
Jan

Hello Jan
1000 dollars for a month is probably a bit optimistic, it might just cover most of the basics, accomodation, food, bus fares etc..( all depends how much you are prepared to rough it of course)....
the trips would add a whole lot more, but they are worth it!... hard to give exact costs, inflation was 22% last year, you could easily double that

have a good trip whatever you do

I was in Venezeual 3 years ago. I spent about 3 weeks. I went to Roraima, Angle falls, Merida, and Los Llanos. I spent less then $ 900. You should bring US $. One hundresd dollar bills is better value than 5 $20 bills in black market. When I crossed the border from Colombia to Venezuela, a soldier try to take money from me during the search. I refused to give him the money. Be careful when you carry lots of cash.

Hola Jan,

As mentioned before US $ 1000 is a bit optimistic. Inflation was actually closer to 30% according to the Central Bank. Nevertheless, if you stayed at budget posadas you may just be able to get your trip in for just over US $ 1000.

Travel safe.

All the best,

Thomas
