I am entering Venezuela through Caracas and would like to go directly to the Canaima National Park area. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the easiest way to get there from Caracas?

I believe the easiest way to go directly from Caracas to Canaima is to get a direct fly from Caracas airport, but I don't think there are many flights that go straight from Caracas to Canaima (well, there used to be one flight daily, but I don't know if it still exists).

Another option is to take a flight to Ciudad Bolivar (Puerto Ordaz) and than take a small plane to Canaima. That's what I did on July 2008, and I was pretty easy. There were a few flights daily from Caracas to Puerto Ordaz and once there, I took a tour to Canaima and Salto Angel. I bought a ticket at the airport just a few hours before the flight and it was ok, no problems at all.

Rutaca or Avior might have something to fit in with your plans.

You should go to the National Airport, next to the International Airport, and buy a ticket to Ciudad Bolivar or Puerto Ordaz. Once at any of those, you'll find daily flights to Canaima. The other way is to go to Caracas and take the overnight sleeper bus from Caracas to Ciudad Bolivar (cheap) through Rodovias (a cheap, nice and private bus company). It arrives in the early morning, from where you can talk to Ruben at the bus terminal (the only tour operator there), and he'll board you on the first plane out to Canaima. He runs the Angel Falls tours.

If you would like a cheapihs option, try the nightbus from Caracas,as posted above. You may want to try Rodovias or Aeroexpresos Ejecutivos, both depart from private terminals a making your trip a less hazardous one.

Travel safe,

All the best,
