Hi all,

I've booked a flight to Venezuela at the end of July, and was looking for any tips on getting from Caracas to Angel Falls. I'm also interested in if anyone has gone from Venezuela to the Amazon and how you went about it/how long it took etc. Any information would be great. I aim to go for at least a couple of weeks and will be staying with a friend in El Hatillo. She has a car but if she doesn't fancy venturing too far from her home I need some help on the best way for me to travel alone.

Any information, and any other ideas of things to see whilst I'm there would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Holly

To get to Angel falls you have to fly (or bus) to Ciudad Bolivar or Puerto Ordaz and then a smaller plane (no land transportation) to Canaima. You can arrange everything in the travel agencies at both airports and from those cities you can bus to Boa Vista and then Manaus in Brazil. Will you fly home from Brazil or do you have to return to Caracas?

I visited Angel Falls earlier this month but came from Amazon. Ciudad Bolivar to Santa Elena buses leave between 1830 and 2100 and take12 hours. See Francisco Alvarez at bus terminal for well organized & cheap trips to Mt Roraima and other attractions. No through buses to Brazil now so from S.E. bus station get a taxi (v. cheap at $4) for the 20k to frontier. It is about 500m walk from Venezuelan immigration to Brazilian equivalent and a further 500m to bus station in Pacaraima, the Brazilaan border town. 3 buses a day to Bao Vista at 0900, 1300 and 1600. 3 hours at 12 reals. Road to Manaus is very potholed and takes about 16 hours from Boa Vista now.. If you are going upstream on Amazon to Tabatinga from Manaus it takes 6 days (3 days downstream cost 170 reals). Quicker downstream from Manaus to Belem.

Hola Holly,

You can get the night bus from Caracas (I recommend Rodovias) to Ciudad Bolivar and fly out to Canaima and the Angel Falls from there. Standard Tours to the Angel Falls are 3 Days / 2 nights. If wanting to go to the Venezuelan State of Amazonas you would necessarily have to fly 1 1/2 hours from Caracas to Puerto Ayacucho. There are some buses that depart from Caracas but take a couple of days in getting to Puerto Ayacucho. There are a few different options to venture into the jungle from Puerto Ayacucho such as the Serrania del Cuao or the Autana Tepui.

Travel safe,

All the best,

Thomas
