we're about to buy a cheap one-way ticket from London to Caracas (277 pounds, TAP via Porto); the plan is to head west to Colombia by land and then south and to see how far we get. However I hear that "officially" we are supposed to have a return ticket without which we might be refused entry. Or even that we may not be able to board the plane in London??!! Does anyone know how strict this is in practice? Anyone any experience with one-way tickets to south american countries, preferably Venezuela?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated as we can't really afford to pay twice the price for a return ticket!

Many thanks

Bryn

In all my times travelling 6 times to Venezuela I have never been asked to show my tickets at immigration. I had them mind you, I think the risk is minimal.
You got a good price for your flight, is that with tax included ? I've found one way tickets are almost as much as roudtrip. Depending on how brave you are there are some good prices Gatwick to Caracas via Mexico. I know; swine flu may just put you off.
Best regards Aaron
