"BOLIVAR FUERTE" (BF) : the 'new'? currency

What is the exchange rate between the 'old' bolivar and the 'bolivar fuerte'?
Is it true that for the next 6 months there are 2 currencies?
What happens after that?
Is the black market for US dollars, still thriving??? can you still get a max of 6,000 old bolivares per 1 US dollar?

Apoptosis,

1 Bs. F = 1000 Bs.

Bs. F: bolivar fuerte (new currency). Bs. Bolivares (old currency).

For 2 months there will be both currencies. After that the old Bolivares will not longer be accepted.

Black market will continue as long as there is a control over the official exchange rate (almost the same time that Chavez is in power). I will guess you can still get 6 Bs. F per dollar... maybe more or less, depends where you change.

The exchange is between 4200 to 4800. 6000 was before 12 december

Ops! Sorry, Caracas2007 is right about the amount of time. It is 6 months.

However, I was in Venezuela until Dec. 29th and the exchange rate that I found was 5000Bs. per dollar (at the lower rate and because I was doing it with family, I was offered 6000Bs per dollar). People we met on the trip who are from Germany got 12000Bs. per Euro. Apoptosis , just be carefull where you exchange your money and don't allow anybody to give you less than 5 Bs. F per dollar.

The rate was 4700 Bs during Christmas. It is now 5000 to the US dollar as of today. This is on Isla de Margarita. In Caracas normally you can get a little more.....
