On November 1, 2008 the bank rate (ATM) was 2.147 bolivares fuertes for one US$.My friends in Caracas say the black market rate is 4.2 to 4.3 bolivares fuertes to the US$. The black market is totally supply and demand so it changes on a daily, if not hourly, basis. Hugo Chavez is rigging the game in his favor if you use his banks, like about 50% ripoff. Bring euros or dollars and shop around.

I returned from Venezuela 2 days ago. The best rate I received was 4.5 at arrival in Caracas airport 2 weeks ago.
Ciudad Bolivar 4, San Fernando de Apure 4.3, Merida 4.1, Coro 4, Chichiriviche 4, Caracas (on way back) 4. If I look better I would get more in Caracas at time of departure but I was changing only few $ for departure tax (115 BsF).
In my opinion it's the best to change as much as you can at the airport. People, who change your money in hotels or tourist agencies sell dollars back in Caracas and offer you a lower rate.

At present you'll get BsF 3.5 per 1 US $ at Caracas International Airport. If you know someone in the country you can trust you'll be able to get a better rate.

All the best,

Can anyone travelling now in Venezuela tell me what the current black market exchange rate is (BsF to USD/EUR)?

You will get a bit less than the rate you see on the link below. The middleman has to make a profit otherwise it would not make sense for him to do the job.

Where can you get exchange rates like those jorge?

Nowhere. The middleman has to earn some money. They all have a family to feed.

What is the best/safest place to change money at Maiquieta Airport? I read about car rental agencies. Do their employees change money for you? Also, I live in eurozone. Is it better for me to buy dollars and bring them to Venezuela, or should I be fine with euros?

You can exchange money anywhere. You never know who you are dealing with. Exchange money at a place where you can locate the man who did the job.
