Going to venezuela in januari for 3 weeks, looking for the best places to snorkle. Is it really necessary to fly to los Roques to see some beautiful coral and fishes or are there also great places near the mainland?

Love to hear your experiences and tips!

Hi! The best places in Venezuela for snorkelling are:

  1. Mochima National Park (islands close to Playa Colorada)
  2. Morrocoy National Park (all around small islands)
  3. Coche

In my opinion Los Roques is good when you want to dive. Otherwise you will not see a lot...

Best Regards, Edyta

I agree with #1, Los Roques ist not all that great for snorkelling (unlike diving). The reef that is in shallow water ist mostly quite dead.
The corals I saw while snorkelling in Mochim were much more alive.

Hello,

Other than the places stated above, you may also want to look into La Cienaga in the Henri Pittier National Park.
If you're in Margarita, apart fro going to Coche you could also go to Los Frailes. Day tours depart from Playa el Tirano on the north-east coast.

Hope you find this info useful.

All the best,
