Hi -

I'm going to be in Ciudad Bolivar in August and was wondering what the night-life was like? Is there any decent bars around the town? The LP guide seems to indicate that it turns into a ghost-town. Is this true? Surely there must be somewhere to have a beer?

Ghost town is exactly how i would describe it and personally I wouldn't bother visiting unless you are doing a trip from there. I'm sure there must be somewhere to have a drink but I reckon most people hang out in their hostels etc.

Well, I must agree with the comment above. Ciudad Bolivar is a good base-town for a trip to Canaima and that's pretty much it. It has a pretty church and some nice (small) museums, but at night it becomes empty. But I only stayed there for a day, before a tour to Canaima and did not hang around at night much.
