Hello,
We will be travelling to Venezuela for 8 days in mid August and are looking to go straight from the airport to a great beach location with the idea of staying there for the majority of the trip (relaxing beach holiday). We don't want to spend long hours in a car or bus for this particular trip. We like fairly good accomodation and good restaurants.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian:

There are plenty options depending on what you want. If you are looking for stunning and relaxing beaches I'll suggest you to go to Los Roques. However, the main island "El Gran Roque" is a very small town where you can walk barefoot if you decide, so, not a big city...If you are looking for something more city like, I'll suggest Margarita. It's the duty free island of the country where you can find nice night live and restaurants and still very nice beaches. There you can choose the comercial ones like Playa El Agua o Playa Parguito or visit the ones that are a little far away but less comercial and very beautiful like Punta Arenas or Isla de Coche. There are many other beautiful beaches but since you only have 8 days, I'll recommendo you to choose any of this two options (or even both). Bye :)

I have to say... Isla Margarita is my least favorite place in South America. The beaches are dirty, the people were unfriendly, the food was bad (got food poisoning), and just basically had a terrible time. That being said, it may be your best option!

Take a look at Choroni. It is very relaxing town and it has some up-scale posadas and BBs (and many cheap ones too). For the top of the tops in deluxe rest and relaxation, nothing in Venezuela beats Los Roques.... check the up-scale posadas there. They have the boats that take you out to the distant beaches on the keys. The town of Gran Roque is very romantic also.

I thought Choroni was really nice too, but it is a bit of a drive from Caracas.

Hi Ian,

Several beach destinations abound in Venezuela, as it's coastline is very long. Most popular beach destinations are, as mentioned above, Los Roques, Margarita, Choroni, Morrocoy and Mochima. Los Roques and Margarita are easiest to get to by plane, so If you are looking to arrive in Vzla and head straight of to the beach then these destinations could prove to be good options. Los Roques is very small, very nice, no roads, great beaches, a nice laid back town with nice posadas and good food. Margarita is much bigger, plenty of roads, even highways, it boasts some very nice beaches, great restaurants, some awesome night life and plenty of adventures sports such as Kitesurfing and diving.
Choroni, Morrocoy and Mochima are easier accessed by car, but they are quite a drive from Caracas International Airport. Choroni, being the closest. Its perfect location in the middle of the Henri Pittier National Park make it a great attraction for beach lovers and mountain trekkers alike.

There are some very nice off the beaten track destinations which are just mesmerizing. Isla La Tortuga is one if them. Quite pricey to get too, but once there you will realize that Los Roques is - just another beach compared to La Tortuga. You may want to look into Puy Pui, Playa Medina and whereabouts, located beyond Rio Caribe in the Eastern section of Venezuela.

Hope this information is of help to you.

Travel safe,

All the best,

Thomas
