Hello everyone!

Has anyone flown out of Caracas with Lufthansa recently? I have read previous threads where people say that the airport fee has been included in the original ticket price, but I wonder if things have changed...

Also, can the airport fee be paid with a credit/debit card? Just in case I run out of cash.

Thanks!

Hi. Every one has to pay two charges when traveling out of Venezuela.

First, the exit tax. This is normally included in your air ticket price, or bus international tickets. It is Bs. 110 per pax, about US$50 or so.

Secondly, the airport tax. This is never included in your ticket and it must be paid at the airport after checked-in, you must show your boarding pass and pay cash. It is Bs.137,50 per pax (US$64 or so). Remember: ONLY CASH and in Bs. Dollars or Euros are not accepted. This tax is paid at AEROTASAS box offices, between airlines counters and migration control.

But the airport tax IS included in some, at least in American Airways' tickets.

In the past it has also been included in Lufthansas tickets (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1572699&messageID=13862573#13862573), but I'm just wondering what the situation is these days.

Hi, I live in Venezuela. The current situation is: both national and international airport taxes must be paid at the airport after checked-in, and an official entity was specially created for this purpose: AEROTASAS... they have a box office in every airport in Venezuela. Airlines are no longer allowed by the Venezuelan government to include airport taxes at the moment of selling the tickets.

In change, the exit tax could be included in your ticket. Exit tax must be paid by every passenger when leaving Venezuela. This is not the same as the airport tax.

  • Airport tax: Bs. 137,50 per pax. Paid cash at the airport after checked-in. AEROTASAS.
  • Exit tax: Bs. 110 per pax. Usually included in the tickets.

Some time ago, it's true, airportr taxes used to be included.

Alright, that clarified things a lot. Thanks!
