Does anyone know what the government requires for a 2 month stay in this area?

OK, you get a 90 day visa as a tourist, renewable for a further 90 days. Citizens of the USA have to pay a reciprocity (tit for tat, as it were) fee of US$100 when entering via the airport at Santiago. This is issued at a desk just before passport control. If you enter Chile by land or sea, you don't pay it.

Forgot to add that the fee covers you for multiple entries for the life of the passport.
