Vina del Mar or Valparaiso Accommodation

Please comment as to where to stay. - Near restaurants ( reasonably priced but good), interesting sites, safe area & fun. Suggestions?

What's your budget? I stayed in Vina and took the train to Valpo for the day, Vina definitely has a nicer feel to it with all the greenery comparing to Valpo.

I stayed at Hotel Monterilla on Dos Norte street, right between Plaza Mexico (near the casino and beach) and Equador. Cost USD73 for a single (queen size bed with excellent - underfloor - heating) a night.
