Venezuela to Colombia

Country forums / South America / Venezuela

Hello, I arrive in Caracas very soon, but I am intending to swiftly go to Colombia.

Is it easy to get a bus from Caracas to any major Colombian town?

Where do the buses go from? How frequently? How much should I expect to pay?

Can anyone recommend a bus company?

Thank you

think fastes way to bus it is caracas-maracaibo and maracaibo-santa marta if you can take a night bus, you might be able to catch a collectivo taxi the next morning in maracaibo to the border from where you can bus on ... so if you have to be 'as fast as possible' this is the way to go, the cost i don't remember

When you arrive in caracass, get yourself to the Expresso Flamingo terminal... its beside the meusem of transport. Not sure of the full address but most taxi men seem to know the meusem of transport. Here you can book a LONG journey 17hrs or so to san christoball in the very south west of the country, which is on the border with columbia. I´m sure there is quicker way along the coast somewhere but why the hell rush. Take an overnight bus to merida 12-13hrs and stay in merida for a day or two or three to break the journey. Then connect to san christoball in 4-5 hrs, across the border and onto another bus to bogata. In merida you can rest up, check out some adventure tours and relax a bit. The buses in venezeula are top class and better than anything in europe, but they get very cold at night so bring a sleeping bag or layers of clothes. It costs about 100Bs F to san christoball and remeber to arrive early for the bus
