Venezuela: Caracas, Margarita, and Angel FallsCountry forums / South America / Venezuela
Hi I am going to visit Venezuela and Colombia in early July this year and could really use some tips as my trip is rapidly approaching! Tentatively, I plan on staying in Caracas for one night, spending two nights in Isla Margarita and one night at Angel Falls. I believe the best way to get to Margarita is by boat. Does anyone know how much this boat trip costs, if I can buy the tickets in advance, and what time each day boats depart and return? As for Angel Falls, I have been looking online for tours but they are all expensive--over $700 for a 2 day 1 night tour. Does anyone have any tours to recommend? And in Caracas, I'm not sure who to believe on how safe the city is. I fully expect to have a very safe experience, but is there a certain part of town that I should try to stay around? Any tips you can suggest or people you can refer me to would be very helpful!
If you can avoid caracas, do it. Not a nice city, and one of the few places in the world I really felt unsafe. | 1
Hi, we have a reservation for this hotel do you remember if is easy to go to vistavilla whith bus and metro from the airport or it is unsafe? every information are wellcome thank you | 2
You can look at tours coming out of Cd. Bolivar like Adrenalina Tours or check out Posada Don Carlos or Posada La Casita for information. The cost is about $250 using the exchange on the parallel market. Don't use credit card or ATM you will get 2.15 bolivares to 1 dollar which creates the $750 price. You can set up the tours from one day to the next. I did a two night trip to Angel Falls and don't know if a one night trip exists, but well worth it. If you take the bus from Caracas it is about 80 bolivares to Cd. Bolivar (10 hours) and about 100 bolivares from the airport to bus stations by taxi. Flight to Puero Ordaz (close to Cd. Bolivar) is 340 Bolivares and is a one hour flight. If you drive it is very long drives anywhere so be prepared to spend the nights driving from one place to another. | 3
Avoid Margarita. Touristy and not at all as beatiful as the rest of the Caribbean coast. Easier and cheaper to travel from Caracas to Morrocoy, ChoronĂ, Puerto la Cruz etc | 4
I liked Caracas, dispite all the bad things I heard before travelling. It has a few nice things to see and do, and it was not as unsafe as people say. I walked around and even used the public transport without no problems at all. I stayed in Altamira and its a nice and safe area. Regarding the Salto Angel tour, you shoud book it in Ciudad Bolivar, its going to cost you a lot less than if you do it online. Anyway, you must do this tour, as it was the most amazing experience on the trip. | 5
Avoid using credit cards or ATM's at all cost. your dollar/euro loses its value at the rate used by cards. use cash as much as possible. | 6
Just did Angel Falls with Tuya tours they have a office at the CB airport.. great service for a 3 day tour paid about $280 and $50 cheaper per person then at the Posada Don Carlos where I was staying, who claimed he could do better than anyone but then got mad when we told him what we were offered and they could not better it!!! | 7
