I'm going to stay in Buenos Aires for little more than a week. I want to explore some of the nearby areas for a few days and not just stay in the city. There seem to be too many great options. I considered Sao Paolo, Santiago, Ushuaia or Medoza (for ruins). It seems like it might be fun to go on a ferry to Montevideo as well, but that sounds more like a day trip? I don't mind flying and specifically thought about going to Santiago to see the andes from above. I would love to see some ruins from the pre-european civilizatios, but I know I probably won't have time to make it to the most famous ones. I love unique and scenic places, urban or natural.

Please help!

A week isn’t that long for BA.
The places you mentioned are not nearby.
Mendoza doesn’t have ruins.

Colonia Uruguay on the Buquebus ferry can be a day trip, to combine Montevideo with Colonia should be 2-3 d total.

The Andes from a plane aren’t that spectacular, sometimes you just see cloud.

Buenos Aires itself offers a lot more than most cities in South America. Compare it to a European city like London or Barcelona. 3 days just isn't enough time.

So if you only have a week, you should just plan a side trip from BA. As above, Uruguay can be good, and you can also do a daytrip to Tigre in an hour or so, and see the jungle waterways there. The most popular thing is a 2-3 day detour by air to Iguazzu falls. That's really beautiful, and you're likely to see monkeys in the jungle there.

@mstep thank you so much for the advice. Igazzu sounds perfect for what I'm looking for, but it's even further on a plane than santiago?

Tigre looks amazing, thanks, it's probably someting I wouldn't have found on my own.
@vizcachas thank you s o much for the recommendation. I think I will go to Colonia for sure :)

I agree with Colonia for a nice day trip.Another option could be to head out into the countryside....if you want to see gauchos and eat parillada.

The places you mention are far away. But Iguazu is worth it if you had more time....

Iguazzu is less than 2 hours by air from Buenos Aires.

I imagine you were looking at the wrong airport..the one on the Brazilian side ;-) You want the Argentinian (IGR) not IGU.

@lucapal You're right, it was the wrong airport, how silly. I just put the names into google, maybe it didn't translate correctly. XD Thank you so much! I would love to see the monkeys!
