Transfer time airport Lima and best domestic airlines?Country forums / South America / Peru
When we arrive in Lima (international flight) we want to go straight to Arequipa. How much time do we need to switch to a domestic flight (baggage pick up, customs, check-in etc.) We already take into account an hour's delay (i know i 'am pessimistic ...) Another guestion. I know the story of the 'gringo tax', but which airlines are well / best rated? Thanks!
If you're on the same ticket then an hour is feasible, although I prefer to allow at least two hours. If it's an arrival time with lots of flights arriving at the same time then 3 hours. However... if it's a separate ticket then the issue is not the time to pass through immigration etc., it's the possibility of delayed arrival. Lima is known for flight delays, especially in the morning, so if you allow two hours and the flight is late then you may not make it, and (more to the point) since it's a separate ticket you will simply be a "no show" and will not only have to buy a new domestic ticket you will lose the return leg of the existing domestic ticket as well.
I would choose Avianca or Latam for internal flights. | 1
Like Alan said....it depends. Same ticket - 1 hour to 2 is probably fine. Though if its that time with loads of flights immigration can be rather lengthy. The domestic is in the same building so its not a long walk. But delays are prominent - so leave a few hours to be safe. What time do you arrive in Lima? It can sometimes be handy to have a night in Lima to get adjusted and make sure you dont miss that connection too. Gringo tax - LAN usually charge a higher price for foreigners. Try Star Peru if you want to avoid that. | 2
I definitely support using LATAM, internationally I fly mostly with KLM/Air France (boy, they spoil me a lot!) and locally with LATAM, again they are super good with me. Regarding the transfer, I would budget around 3 hours, flight might be delay, many flights could arrive the same time, if everything goes smoothly, you will have extra time to wander in the airport and eat something. Enjoy Peru! | 3
We flew with LC Peru. They have no higher price for foreigners either and were very affordable. | 4
I wouldn't recommend Latam because you might end up buying a ton more for the same flight and the same service. LC Peru, Peruvian, Avianca..they are all fine, I'd just try to avoid Latam ;) I bought a flight online for $80 and ended up paying like twice as much. I can't even believe that theyre allowed to do this, it's just so ridiculous! | 5
