Hi!

I'm currently looking into a flight from Germany to Argentina on Dec 11 (+/- 2 days) or Chile and from there to my final destination: Punta Arenas. I'm not really a big fan of airplanes and found a good direct flight from Frankfurt to Buenos Aires for a fair price with Lufthansa. Santiago de Chile was another option but more expensive. And from what I've read, Buenos Aires seems to be the typical choice. I looked into flights from Buenos Aires to Punta Arenas but the results only showed low cost airlines like JetSmart which I try to stay away from.

The official website of Punta Arenas suggests a flight from Buenos Aires to Rio Gallegos and the a 5-hour bus trip through the Magellanic Pampa to Punta Arenas with a border crossing. The good thing is that I found a flight from Buenos Aires to Rio Gallegos with LATAM Airlines which is a Oneworld Alliance partner and gives me a little more comfort while booking ;) But I did not find a bus connection and would love to know if this is the best choice for someone who is not a big fan of flying and where the budget is a little flexible.

Thanks so much!

Either fly to Rio Gallegos or fly to El Calafate. Bus to Puerto Natales should be about the same amount of time/distance from either place. If you fly to El Calafate, you can stop for a day and see the Petito Moreno glacier enroute. The problem with a flight to Punta Arenas is you need to change flights in Santiago, Chile. And then you've still got the bus journey at the end to reach Puerto Natales.

Bus-Sur does have 5 hour buses from Rio Gallego to PN, but maybe not every day.
