sleeping in Rio international airport (GIG)Country forums / South America / Brazil
Hi! I am a girl travelling alone in Brazil and my flight is leaving on 9:40am on next week. If I have to arrive before 3 hours of the departure time. It would be 6:40am. I am staying in copacabana region. I am wondering should I go there one night before and sleep there or take taxi in very morning. I concern about safety if i sleep in airport and also cost of taxi in very morning. I hope to seek some advise here, thanks.

A taxi to the airport at that time will be about R$50-60 and take around 20-30 minutes. Why not get a a decent nights sleep in a real bed at your accomodationl? | 2
I wouldn't sleep there. Ive caught flights there at 3am and its dead. at 6am in the morning, its best to catch a taxi. There won't be any traffic. It will be fairly cheap - I'd say less than what corisco said (it cost me 60 to go to Copa in Dec and it was in traffic). | 3
3 hours is a long check in time. The 3 hours generally indicates when check in opens, not that you need to be there 3 hours in advance. GIG is small and there is almost nothing to do (i.e. eat, shop) once you pass through intl. immigration and get to the gate areas. Give yourself a time buffer but no rush to be there for 06:40. As the others have said above there will be minimal traffic and the airport is reasonably close to the centre so a taxi is ideal. | 4
