Hi --

I'm looking to travel from Santiago to Buenos Aires, preferably by bus for the cheapest fare possible. How long would that take and how much money would it take? This will be my first time traveling in SA.

Thanks.

It is about 20 hours and CLP 71,000 (about US$110) if you go straight through but it would probably be cheaper to get a bus from Santiago to Mendoza and then a domestic service from Mendoza to Buenos Aires.

Do you realise that SKY Airline flies this route for around US$70 and takes less than 2 hours.

Every group has its own dynamics, if you can't see the idiot then it's probably you.
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think :-D

You can divide the trip as suggested by marka55, Santiago - Mondoza - BA. The passage through the mountains offers some spectacular views. There are good chances to spot condors at the border crossing.
On the second part, Mendoza to BA you can either continue by night bus or take a flight, as the landscape in that part of Argentina is rather boring. Flight tickets on domestic routes are quite reasonable, while international are much more expensive.
