Salar de Uyuni in September

Country forums / South America / Bolivia

Hi, In the last stages of planning and was wondering if September was close enough to the rainy season that there might be a risk in going to Salar de Uyuni in late September as opposed to mid September - Is September still ok all month?
Thanks

September should be dry, in a normal weather year.

It should be OK, although weather patterns seem a little odd this year.

I arrive in La Paz mid-September and will be in Bolivia for about 40days. The main destination that I don't want to miss, is the Salar de Uyuni. I'll be traveling around, then back to La Paz in order to travel to Lima for my return.

Would it be best to go there first in mid-September? Or wait until I'm heading back to La Paz and do the Salar de Uyuni in mid-October?

When I was there a week ago, the tour guide kept saying "December, January and February" as the wet months - September should be dry, but it is cold at night!

The weather is better in September by the end of October, November and December the rainy season starts and it is not very convenient to travel to Salar de Uyuni in a rainy season it could be dangerous.
