Consider going to the nearby National Park on the day you arrive and then doing the trip to La Plata the next day. I did a rafting trip out of Tena and it was really great. Maybe Banos is closest for Tena, on your itinerary.
Consider Montanita for a look if you have time (on the way from Puerto Lopez to Guyaquil). Beware of the garua though at that time of year. Personally I didn't find Banos or Cuenca to be of much interest, but that is only my opinion. Overall I think you have a good itinerary given the short amount of time you have.

| nialloc200001:10 UTC01 Jul 2007 | hey just left PL about 4 days ago after doing isla del plata tour... the tours generally must be booked before 9am on the morning as they radio in numbers around then for the tour starting at 10am. i would recommend the bus company Reina del Camino (not sure if its camino or camisso, would have to check) from quito to PL. they were safe and quite helpful but we travelled by day. puerto lopez itself is a lovely little village, relatively safe and v quiet. we enjoyed the few days of calm there! if u need anymore info jst let me know...
