!Hola!
My girlfriend and I will make a backpacking travel in Southern Peru, Bolivia and Northern Chile next summer. I will spend a month and a half in the region, moving with the cheapest means possible (buses and/or autostop).
So, we thought of doing our "nature visit" in Rurrenabaque. However, it is 18 hours by bus from La Paz, and we do not have the money for a plane. Also, there is nothing we are really interested in visiting near Rurre, so it would be a really long detour and, even though we would have a great time, we are considering alternatives.

Does anyone have a suggestion for some interesting natural parks, either in Bolivia or in Peru, where we could visit the Amazonas, go on boats, and stuff like that?
We also heard of Villa Tunari, near Cochabamba, but could not find that much infos on it....

Any suggestion are welcome!!
Thank you very much!

Manu national park in Peru is pretty easy to get to by bus from Cusco, so you should put that high on your list. But you would need a lodge there to get the Amazon experience, and that won't be cheap. Basically the Amazon isn't a cheap destination. Anyplace worth going charges all inclusive prices, for meals, plus guides, plus lodging and transport. Think at least US $100 per day, often much more.

Rurre in Bolivia definitely is the cheapest option. And you don't need to go by bus the whole way there if you choose that. There are travel agencies in La Paz that sell boat tours to go to Rurre, so you see the nature along the way.

Thank you for the suggestions!
after some consideration, we decided to go to Manu park after all, as we read some great reviews of the activities there. Does anyone have suggestion regarding specific tours to do/avoid there? should we just get a tour from cuzco?
Even though it may be expensive seeing the amazons, like Machu Picchu and the Salar de Uyuni, are a must for a travel in the region...

we are open to suggestions, and looking forward to hearing your experiences!
