Machu Picchu acces at end of August

Hello,
since we missed the inca trail (it's full), we decided to arrive in Cuzco,and from there, look what there is do to do, and choose the activities on place. One thing we really do not want to miss, is the visit of the Machu Picchu itself. Only for the visit and train to get there, do we need to booked in advance, or it's gonna be easy to book everything in Cuzco.

Train tickets are wise to book a day or two in advance. Tickets for the site you buy when you arrive.

You are going in season. Make your reservations as soon as you know your dates, the trains do fill up.

Even though you missed the Inca Trail there are many other hikes in the region that are worth doing. The Inca Trail is the most popular only because everyone wants to be able to say that they've done the famous walk. But if you are actually interested in the hiking part of the hike, then there are many other options. Salkantay, for example, is a fantastic hike that also ends at Machu Picchu. It's also half the price of the Inca Trail and can be booked when you arrive in Cusco.

Last June, I was disappointed when I heard the Inca Trail was full. But, I opted for the Salkantay trek 5D/4N to MP with United Mice. It was an excellent alternative.

If you plan to take the train to MP, book as soon as possible. TripAdvisor forum members are reporting some difficulty with getting spots on the train, even in August. (and rememer your return trip from AC if you take an alternative trek.)

Are you sure about this? I was definetly not 1 of 40 at MP when I visited. More like 1 of 1000. There is definetly a cap on the amount of Inca Trail tickets sold, and there is a cap on the amount of people that can climb Wayna Pichhu. But entrance to Machu Picchu itself? Can anyone else comfirm this?
