Iquitos vs Puerto Maldonado

We'll be visint Peru in October and will be short on time, so we are limited to visiting either Iquitos or Puerto Maldonado, not both. Does anyone have an opinion about which of these provides a better "jungle" experience?

In very general terms, Iquitos hs outstanding flora but you have to get VERY deep in the rainforest to see decent fauna or get to Pacaya Samaria. Puerto Maldonado offers several destinations with much better probability of seeing wildlife. See www.perunature.com and www.peruperu.com for some ideas. Regards, Tad
