How much does a taxi from Rio airport (galeao) to Santa Teresa cost?Country forums / South America / Brazil
What is a reasonable fair to go from Galeao international airport to the Santa Teresa area? I have the possibility to take a transfer arranged by our hostel for 150R but that seems a bit much? Or is this reasonable? How much would it aproximately cost if I arrange a taxi by myself (around 8pm) ?
Depending on exactly where and traffic, probably between about R$50 and R$60. That's on the basis that you get a regular cab outside, rather than one of those 'radio cabs' booked inside the terminal. If you are silly enough to that expect to pay an additional loading of another R$20-30. Do be aware that you might need to ask more than one cabbie, quite a few of them don't like driving up to Santa Teresa but that's as often as not an excuse on shorter trips. | 1
Well, we'll arrive after a very long flight and we'll probably will be very tired. I assume the most hassle-free option with the least possibility of getting ripped off would be to book a radio taxi then? (It would still be way cheaper than the hoteltransfer anyhow) | 2
Thanks for the info :) | 3 | |
The radio taxi is a rip off. You derive no tangible benefit for paying for one. Contrary to the weird belief held by some people, usually those who have never been, taxi drivers in Rio tend to be quite honest. It's arguably less hassle to walk outside and grab a taxi off the curb. If you speak Portuguese, you might even be able to haggle a flat fare, off the meter. Even if you don't, it's cheaper and you can just give the driver a piece of paper with your address. Just get a cab out the front like everyone else. | 4
Corisco is right. | 5 | |
