Help! No Hotel in Puno

Hi there, the two of us is going to Peru in July and have been in search for hotel in Puno for July 18 and July 20. We have asked a few hotels and either have no availability or no response. Anyone out there has recommendation? Our train arrived in Puno late in the evening so we definitely want to book in advance.

Some travelers have liked: Hotel Qelqatani, Hotel El Buho, Hotel Colon Inn, Hotel Case Andina.

Hostal Don Julio was decent but minimalist. Only 70 soles a night for me.

I just stayed at the Hotel Arequipa. It is clean, has hot water and is in a good location. I paid about $15 a night for a double with a private bathroom.

I stayed in 'la manzanilla' or something similar. Cheap, friendly staff, breakfast included, ...
I don't think it's a problem to take a taxi in the train station and ask for a good and cheap hotel or hostal. I did it several times this way when I was in Peru some weeks ago. If the taxi driver goes in the hotel to ask weather they have place, go with him or he might ask his commission.

back from Peru. We ended up staying at Hotel El Buho the night before we headed out to the islands and the night after we returned. The room is clean and sufficiently spacious. The breakfast is available early in the morning. A security guard is on duty in the lobby all night long - make me feel so safe. The staff is also helpful. Recommended!
