GSM phones in Argentina.Country forums / South America
The following is a question I received via private message:
If you have a two-band unlocked GSM cellphone from the United States or Canada it will work in all American countries except Brazil and Venezuela. If you have a two-band unlocked GSM cellphone from Europe or Australia it will work only in Brazil and Venezuela. Quad-band unlocked GSM cellphones work all over the world. In Argentina the CTI SIM card costs 3.40 US$, the Personal SIM card costs 2.25 US$ and the Movistar SIM card costs 3.90 US$. Two-band phones with the pre-paid system cost 30.00 US$. Local calls cost 0.23 US$ per minute. International calls cost about 0.80 US$ per minute. | 1
To the poster who has asked this question, please, send me your phone trade mark and model to be able to tell you if it works here. | 2

Tri-band phones from Europe, Australia, Brazil and Venezuela lack the 850 Mhz band needed in the 23 Argentine provinces. | 4
