How soon after the vaccine is taken is it effective? I am travelling to Iguazu Falls from Buenos Aires on 1/1/08, and will be in Buenos Aires from 12/29 until 12/31.

Is the clinic state sponsored? Do you need an appointment or is it first come first serve?

The vaccine is effective 10 days after it is taken. This clinic is paid by the state. You do not need an appointment. This vaccine is not needed to visit the Iguazu Falls.

I would say you should wear something somewhere between heavy jacket and fleece top and you are good to go... I was there through the end of June last year (2006) and got by with a relatively thin leather jacket... but I think a lot of it depends on what you are used to as well. A lot of the Argentines tended to think it was ridiculously cold, wearing huge jackets and stuff, but as I am from the northeastern United States, I am pretty used to it being a lot colder than that... and then the people from places like Minnesota who were used to it a lot colder than me just wore things like a track jacket... though I think they were a bit crazy, haha.

ATTENTION TRAVELERS!
Yellow fever - "Fibre Amarilla" is hitting S.America. . . Don't panic ah?! It's allways here somewhere, so business as usual.
just make sure you get vacinated if you are going to all those god forsaken amazone lands and Jungles.
If you are in Buenos Aires there is that place where Jorge (thanks man!) wrote about.
I was there 2day.
The hours changed though, and u no longer have to bring anything but u'r passport. (Some sites say u need to bring your own insector and all... it costs 90 centavos, but u don't need it, they have it all there.)
I forget the opening hours - But the days are monday to fridey (Lunes a Viernes) and it's not an hour day - It's from arround 10 i think - until 16:00 ! so u got all day. . . it's a painless 0.3 sec. thing. it's like a Vaccination factory. u go in, groups of 15 at a time, give u'r passport, get it in the waiting room (5 minutes w8 no more.) then get the shoot in a sec.
Go for it.
b.t.w - u can take either 61/62 buses to Avenida paso colon arround 600 and go 2 blocs down to Ingeniero Huergo 690.
(It's the crossing of Ingeniero Huergo AND Chile.
You can also take the Train (not the subte!) that passes Puerto maderonto the INDEPENDENCIA stop. The place is across the rail road. watch out when crossing!

First off, thanks for all the great info on BA and Argentina! I see your posts all over this forum and they're quite helpful.

I'll be needing to get my wife the Yellow Fever Vaccination once in Argentina. Is this clinic still offering the shot? Is it still the only place to get it in Argentina that you know of?

If not Jorge then anyone else have any tips on this shot and where to get it?

This clinic is working as usual. I will go tomorrow in the morning (it is too late today) to check their working hours and let you know. It is the only place in Argentina where they give you the official certificate. All free of charge.
