Hi all,

I am in Sucre and can´t seem to find info about schedules for flights from La Paz to Rurre. I´d like to take LAN because it´s the cheaper option (last I heard anyways) but their website doesn´t give any info about their flight schedules to Rurre. Does anyone know which days and times they fly to Rurre? And can I make a reservation without physically being in La Paz? Ideally I´d like to take the overnight bus from Sucre to La Paz and then fly right out to Rurre same day, without staying for a day in La Paz, but I´m not sure this is feasible because I don´t know the flight schedules to Rurre. Thanks for any assistance.

[www.LAN.com] will ask for your flight itinerary, FROM: La Paz; TO: Rurre. Then it will give you an array of times for flights. Or, go directly to the airline office in Sucre or La Paz to ask and purchase the ticket.

Unless things have changed v recently LAN dont fly to Rurre, the main airlines that fly from La PAz to Rurre are Amaszonas and TAM (Bolivia's military transport airline who also have passenger flights). Amaszonas have a website, not sure if TAM do. Flights are more frequent from La Paz in the mornings. If you cant make a reservation on line Im sure an agency in Sucre will be able to help (not sure if either airline has an office in Sucre).

Thanks, you are right, it is TAM that flies to Rurre from La Paz - I remembered the wrong acronym. They have a flight on Fridays at 3:30 PM, so I guess that's what I'm going to take. A quick follow-up question for anyone who has done the ride - how is the bus from Sucre-La Paz? I'm debating whether to bus or fly. I'd rather bus to save a few dollars but not if it is a misearble trip. Is it possible to sleep if you take a semi or full cama, or are the roads really bad? Suggestions?

Thanks again.

Trans Copacabana used to have an overnight semi cama service from Sucre to La Paz, leaving around 6.30pm, takes around 12 hours. They're a decent company, road is paved all the way (you go via Potosi)

Aerocon (http://www.aerocon.bo/) also flies this same route.

Though one time I flew Areocon from Trinidad to Cochabamba and the plane was an Amaszonas plane. Maybe they have the same owners.

Saw the other day Aerocon have a newish office in La Paz on the corner of San Pedro square by the prison. More domestice service providers and competition are usually good news

Name has always amused me, after the LAB fiasco of a few years ago I did wonder if it was a new airline opened by the old LAB owners.......!

La Paz - Rurre / Rurrenabaque: TAM - Transporte Aéreo Militar - has a flight five days a week. Línea Aérea Amaszonas has four or five flights a day. TAM uses a Xian MA60, a Chinese airplane with 56 passenger seats, while Amaszonas uses a Fairchild with 19 seats.

Amaszonas ("A más zonas" = "to more zones"), Aerocon (Línea Aérea Bandera del Beni) and AeroSur ("La Aerolínea de los Bolivianos") co-operate.

The website of TAM is www.tam.bo</a>. This site has not worked for months, but today it is online.
(TAM should not be mixed up with the Brazilian owned TAM Group of airlines).

Once a week, on Tuesdays, TAM fly Trinidad - Rurrenabaque - San Borja - Trinidad with a CASA C-212-100.
Three days a week Amaszonas fly Trinidad - San Borja - Rurrenabaque. See the thread Santa Cruz to Rurrenabaque?, 29-Mar-2010.

About LAB (Lloyd Aéreo Boliviano) and a "replacement":
Boliviana de Aviación is a new airline with a name similar to Cubana de Aviación.

About the airstrip / airfield ("airport") of Rurrenabaque: It is expected that the runway will be paved here in 2010, cf. reply # 7 in the thread First timer: Bolivian Busses, 11-Mar-2010.

In general to find information about flying: Use the encyclopedia Wikipedia at en.wikipedia.org. All airlines and many airports in Bolivia are described:
Category: Airlines of Bolivia and Category: Airports in Bolivia

A useful page about airlines and airports in Bolivia: Boliviabella.com/airlines.html

About tours from Rurre / Rurrenabaque I can refer to reply # 3 in the TT thread Some questions for our Bolivia experts, 07-Mar-2010.

About posting here at TT: Apparently you have posted your question in the general South America branch. If / when you ask about Bolivia again, I suggest that you post direct in the Bolivia forum. A thread in the Bolivia forum also appears in the general South America branch.
