Entry & Leaving Requirements/Proof of moving on.

Hello.
A friend and myself will be travelling SA in late February to late July next year. We are aware that when you enter Ecuador (our starting point) you must have proof that you are moving onwards within 3 months. We will most likely fly down to Chile after 3 weeks/1 month (with our proof of flight booking as evidence of moving onward) and then head slowly back north towards Quito for our return flight 5 months later.

We aware that you must have proof that you are leaving Ecuador within 3 months but what about Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru? We cannot afford to take a flight inbetween every country as it is too expensive so will bus tickets suffice or do some countries not even require proof you are moving on again?

We may not go to every single one of these countries due to time but i'd like to know border laws and regulations just to be safe anyway.

Your return plane ticket is proof that you are leaving South America at some stage.

As someone who has been a regular member of this forum for over 10 years, I can assure you that no one has ever been refused entry at landing or crossing into the Spanish-speaking South American countries for failure to have proof of onward passage. It may be a technical requirement on the books, but it is never enforced here. The only chance of it becoming an issue is that certain airlines, mainly some of the US ones, unscrupulously insist on this at check-into squeeze extra money out of passengers, forcing the to buy costly return tickets at extortionate prices. Lots of threads on this, many with suggestions, in this forum.

Ok brilliant. We're still going to fly South to Chile from Ecuador and slowly back North anyway as the weather seasons seem to be more optimal, especially with Bolivia's allegedly very intense rainy season in places.

We're flying with LAN Airlines which is not American so that shouldn't be an issue then. Thank you very much for your response and I will be sure to check the forums for similar threads before starting a new one!
