Diving in Colombia

Country forums / South America / Colombia

Hallo everybody!
I'm going north of the Country on next august and I'd also like to dive somewhere, if likeable.
So here's the question:
Anybody knows about any nice dive spots on the north side? I know there's Tananga, close to S.ta Marta.. no idea about its sea fauna "value"... Could anybody be so gentle to shoot good hints?
Thank you y buena suerte!

In Taganga I made eight dives with Poseidon, which is a PADI dive centre. Two dives cost 130 000 pesos (July 2007) and in that price all the equipment is included. The dives are made by boat and in-between them there is a short break at a shore were you will get some snacks (small sandwich, biscuits and coke).

The diving is good in Taganga. There are many corals, both soft and hard. Other things you will see during the dives are: lots of tube worms, fire worms, big angelfish, green morays and smaller spotted morays, cowfish, octopus, parrotfish, barracuda, lobsters and many more.
The best dive site I visited was Los dos Moritos.

Taganga is a good place to dive. Pretty much all schools will charge the same price as MalenaN says. There is different prices if you have a diving certificate or not. They all include all equipment and some snacks for the break.

I regularly go there and dive with Santiago (Vida Marina Diving School). They have very new and well-kept equipment and tend to have smaller groups, unlike Poseidon that have large groups in peak season. I dunno if they speak english though, Poseidon people are German and should be able to speak several European languages. Both are very professional and safe and are PADI, NAUI and Colombian diving association certified.
The diving school I talk about is: http://www.buceovidamarina.com/home_big.html

Taganga is good, and cheap. Techo Azul is a great ,cheap hostal I just got back from. Watch out for the tap water in Taganga though - you can get very ill....

Alternatively consider San Andres & Providencia (you'll need to fly though).

Best diving in all Colombia is at Malpelo Island, in the Pacific, and it's a nightmare to get to (but well worth it apparently).

See this Colombia diving guide for a few more tips.

Thank you all guys!
So it seems Tananga is the easier choice.. luckily language is not a problem, the time is ;)

What i am actually looking is a place on the north side, close to tayrona or cartagena, which has nice, clear-water spots (unfortunately, i m pretty spoiled with dives.. i ve never lost the chance to explore the best spots around the world) and particular "encounters" such as sharks, turtles, mantas, dolphins...
Thank u a lot again and happy travels!
