Costs of medical services in ChileCountry forums / South America / Chile
Hi, I'm going to Chile next week and I need to buy an insurance. During some research about Chile I have found the information, that costs of medical services in Chile are very high (like in the USA), and even simple accident such as broken leg can led to the bill for thousands of dollars. However, due to basic level of my Spanish I find it difficult to confirm the above. During my travels I'm normally insured up to the sum of 30.000 USD which makes me feel safe, as the abovementioned sum is sufficient even in more serious medical events (I usually travel around Asia and South America - in most of the countries medical services are cheap). Taking into account the information about high costs of medical services I'm now worried that insurance sum of 30.000 USD is too small. And my question - is the information about high costs of medical services true? And if so, which amount of insurance sum should be considered as "safe" for 2-weeks journey?
The medical costs in Chile for private care are NO way equal to the USA. Nowhere is. When I travel to the US, even though my local provider reimburses according to my local health plan, I need to pay a big supplement for the USA. I have a very good health plan. Since Chile is about the outdoors, if you are doing adventure tourism then you need a plan which covers that. Some insurance will have exceptions for certain activities. Read the terms and conditions. | 1
