Airfares, like everything else in Venezuela, are priced according to the parallel rate. Therefore, if you are paying in dollars, or at the official rate, you are going to suffer. You need to exchange at the parallel rate and pay for your ticket locally in bolivares if you want to get a semi-normal airfare equivilant. After the devaluation, there's no such thing as a cheap airfare in Venezuela no matter how you pay for it. Good luck. This is probably the most expensive country in the western hemisphere now.

Hi Kuchen78,

After our recent devaluation, airfares have gone through the roof. Alternatively, and if you are on a budget, and want to go to Santa Marta, Baranquilla and Caratagen on Colombia's Northeastern coast you can take the bus to Colombia via Maicao in the north. Buses depart from Maracaibo and even Caracas. Just make sure you have all your docs in order and you should have no problems.

Travel safe,

All the best
