Caracas transit

Country forums / South America / Venezuela

Travelling from Europe to Lima, Peru, I have ended up with a stopover in Caracas from mid afternoon through until 6.00 am next day. I would appreciate advice on the pro's and cons of leaving the airport to find a hotel for a few hours or sitting 15 hours in this airport. I prefer to find the hotel but there seems to be nothing very close to the airport and some websites suggest that I need to be back at CCS to check in 4 hours before the Lima flight. Then there is also the question of visa's, airport departure charges etc. Thanks to anyone with experience who can help.

Hello Marcks, I recommed you to stay at the airport. If you dont know anyone in the city could be dangerous since you will arrive at the afternoon or at night. Also there is nothing interesting to see in few hours.

Hola Mark,

There are some hotels close to the airport you might want to look into. Hotel Catimar, Hotel Buena Vista Inn, Hotel La Parada, or Muevete por Vargas. All of standard accommodation with no swimming pool, just a place to crash for the night before heading out to the airport to check into your flight to Peru the following morning. You would have to pay for departure taxes which in local currency is BsF 190. There is a Marriot close to the airport, which is quite pricey but does have a swimming pool. The Hotel Miramar Suites also has a swimming pool and is slightly cheaper than the Marriot. Check in time in Venezuela is three hours before scheduled flight departure time. If you ask me, sleeping in a bed beats waiting 15 hours at the airport. Just make sure that you organize a private transfer to and from the airport. Some of the hotels mentioned above offer this service too.

Travel safe,

All the best,

Thomas
