Yeah isn't it?? And will be the end of our 8 days doing the "O"!!
Not happy Jan... :(

And seriously, my luck on this... 6 years ago I was in Patagonia for a few months, and heading toward Torres... then some dick from Israel burns down half the national park, destroying the season for everyone... so been waiting 6 years to get back there again, and now this... gawd.

ah, I was there a few days before it was burnt down. It was a simpler time (campsites were only 4-6,000 pesos along the trail and no need to prebook anything). I've been twice since then and its worth the effort. Though, the reason for Fantastico Surs pricing is a) the meals and b) they've got a stranglehold on location atm).
If I was you, I'd just stump up the money for a dorm bed for the night (its pretty similar in price to a campsite - pre erected tent - they actually dont allow you to use other tents there). So may as well splurge for a night. Or just walk from the bottom.

Is there any possible way to do wild camping anywhere there, or did that Israeli incident basically ruin that kind of thing for everyone too?

Camping is only permitted in designated camping spots. WIld camping is illegal. Fines and expulsion from Chile could occur if you are found to be doing it. So my advice is to not wild camp.
