Heads up to anyone planning to trek the W or Circuit in the upcoming trekking season in TDP. According to the official website, Campamento Torres is closed for the season.

So if you are looking to camp at the base - you'll have to go to the nearest campsite (Refugio Chileno).

No idea. Probably to maintain the area. Or there was issues there.

Well thank you very much for the heads up!! You just saved my bacon! We'd booked some refuges already and were waiting for the last couple of CONAF camps to be available for booking, but since that camp is closed, I was able to get tent pads at Chileno. Would sure have wrecked the trip otherwise, as you can't go without showing you have all your reservations. You were helpful last year with some other questions... your knowledge and helpfulness are much appreciated : )

I wouldn't say wrecked the trip. I've hiked up from Hosteria Las Torres for sunset and sunrise. Its a long walk but manageable. You can still enter the park without reservations. They just don't allow you on some trails without reservations (usually the back side of the O circuit).

Hwy guys,

So does anyone know if this means best thing is to book 2 nights at Refugio Chileno, if not needing to rush things?

If you don't mind spending 130+ USD a night to camp and food, then sure. Though its only a 1.5 hour walk from Chileno to the viewpoint itself. If your only hiking with a small day pack, it won't be bad at all. Its actually a fairly easy walk til you get to Campamento Torres (then its a bit of a mission up the slope).

I'd say two nights would mean you'd have a better chance of seeing the towers. But this is Patagonia, and the weather will have other ideas.

Yeah those prices, I thought it was an error?!?! So where's the nearest "normal" priced camping spot??

Would probably be at Refugio Central - where you can get a campsite for 21USD. Which is at the bottom(near Hosteria Las Torres) and is a good 3-4 hour trek to the Mirador Las Torres. It can be done as a day trip but its a gruelling day.
