Boat from Rurre to Guanay Saturday the 7th

Country forums / South America / Bolivia

We are 3 travelers who have hired a boat from Rurrenabaque up the Beni River to Guanay.
We are going early Saturday morning the 7th of August. Expected travel time is 8 hours.

You can join us. We have 5 seats for sale, 50 US dollars per person.
We can be contacted through the office of San Miguel del Bala in Rurre.

From Guanay you can go by road to Caranavi and further to Coroico.

I took the boat down from Guanay to Rurre, it was quite a long trip, and I very much doubt that you can do this trip upriver in 8 hours !

Yes, it is a long boat trip, but people here in Rurre says it is possible in a boat with a strong motor, although it is up stream. I have had my doubt, but we will do it anyway.
I have a Garmin GPS (Dakota 20) so I can check the progress underway.
We will go direct, only with very short breaks / stops.

The boat will return the day after, Sunday the 8th.
Is anybody interested in using the opportunity ?
You are welcome to contact us, as mentioned above or at our phone (+591) 77888410.

i would say the timing is not far out. The "3 day" boats trips from la paz / coroico are esimatedto be approx 9 hours actual boat time - the rest is road travel and stops river side for hikes etc.

No I did this trip, I don't remember exactly but the actual boat time was at least 16 hours, more I think.

Thanks for your comments and help.
The direct distance (as the crow flies) Rurre - Guanay is about 125 km. I do not know the distance along the rivers. It may be 200 km, and can unlikely be more than 250 km.
The speed of a boat with a strong motor is 25 - 30 km/hour. I have checked with my GPS, and as far I remember 25 km/h also apply to up stream. This speed is "absolute", not relative to the water.
8 - 10 hours boat trip should not be unrealistic.

We have found an other boat for our trip. It is cheaper, we do not need to sell seats, and moreover we have not been approached, neither on our poster here in Rurre.
Our boatman sails the trip very often. He normally uses one day, 8 - 10 hours to Guanay.

We did it. We are now in Guanay. But by boat only to Mayaya, and by road to Guanay.
More information later, maybe in 3 weeks from now.
