Argentina to Uruguay (or vice versa) by boatCountry forums / South America / Argentina
Hi all... strange question perhaps. I can't find any information on this topic and I'm wondering if it's even possible. My wife and I are thinking of doing a beach type vacation for two weeks in November. We were interested in going to Costa del Este and Aguas Verdes area in Argentina for a week and then Playa Brava or Puerto Jardin in Uruguay for another week. I'm wondering if it's possible to take a boat from one area to the next, as it might be more direct than by land and cheaper/more direct than a flight/drive combination via airports. Is there a ferry or some sort of rental charters that go from that area? I've found stuff from Buenos Aires to Montevideo but that's not really where we'll be at. Is this even possible or should we look to do something else entirely
Costa del Este by bus 4 to 5 hours to BA, Buquebus to Montevideo and bus 1.5 to 2 hours to Punta del Este makes the most sense. Buquebus offers the combo ferry to Montevideo with their own bus on to Punta, very convenient as you dont have to disembark and change to bus station. You wont find a direct boat, if you charter something seaworthy it will be orders of magnitude more expensive. The main question is why you want to do it at all. These arent destination type beaches with tropical islands. Costa del Este/Aguas Verdes is more of a get away place for people stuck in BA, but as a destination it hasnt much to offer. And to make all the effort to get to Punta del Este just to be at a different beach? And the South Atlantic in November may not be that warm either. | 1
Basically, no. The ferry services are between BA and either Colonia, Punta and Montevideo. Pretty well all transportation within Uruguay is by road, and in BA province by train or commuter train. The nicest beaches in Uruguay are in the far east, unless you hanker for the glitzy glamor of Punta del Este. | 2
Alright, thanks for the information guys. Vizcachas, to answer your question... we are part of a vacation club (like a timeshare) and we are trying to combine 2 available resorts in one trip, without much added costs or travel in between. We'd like to take 2 weeks vacation at once and relax near the ocean and those 2 areas have places we can use with our club. | 3
