Argentina in two weeks (late march/ early april) - Itinerary tips

Hi everyone!

My boyfriend and I are planning our holidays in Argentina, from March 22nd until April 3rd.
We have never been in South America before and would like to experience both culture and nature of Argentina and Patagonia.
Our main interests on going to Argentina and Patagonia are: see glaciares, wildlife watching (penguins, sea lions, whales, orcas), outdoor activities in unique landscapes (hiking/ bike).

Our plan is:
Peninsula Valdes - 2/ 3 days - specifically for whale watching and maybe also penguins and sea lions colonies;
Buenos Aires - 3/4 days;
Ushuaia - 2/ 3 days - for penguins colonies and outdoors activities, go to the prison museum and take "the end of the world train" (does it well worth it?);
El calafate - 1/2 days - for Perito Moreno

We are in a low budget and all the trips from place to place are enhancing a lot the trip costs! :(
Also I am afraid that our trip would be to much "locked" to the plan (take a plane, after two days take another plane, after two days take another plane... it seems like we will be on a rush and not enjoying the places, also no space for unpredictable situations or for changing plans).
So I am wondering if we should skip Peninsula Valdes and focus on El Calafate/ Ushuaia area.

I think we can watch some wildlife also in Ushuaia. What do you think? Is it well worth it to go to Peninsula Valdes? Will we manage to whale watching there in the end of march? Is it possible to whale whatching in Ushuaia as well?

Any opinions and tips are welcome!

We would like to travel independent (not in tours) as much as possible.

I would skip Ushuaia and spend those days in El Chalten. Much better hiking.

Obviously #1 knows nothing of wine, and from his other posts, knows little of anything outside the central Andes he gratuitously flogs without being asked :)
