afternoon bus trip outside of Cartagena and p.m. activities

I will be in Cartagena for a week studying Spanish. I will have my afternoons free and hoped that maybe I could grab a bus and travel outside of Cartagena and return just for the afternoon to experience the countryside just a bit.

Any Advice on that?

Also any advice on what to do hanging around Cartagena in the afternoons?

Anyone know the Cafe Havana in Cartagena?

The Cafe Havana is one of the nicest, upscale bars in Getsamani, the slightly seedy neighbourhood where most of the inexpensive backpacker hostels and hotels are. The bar is very safe, very nice inside, mostly populated by gringos paying way too much for a drink. It gets hopping with a few more locals on the weekends.

I took a tour to the mud vulcano Vulcán de Lodo El Totumo one morning when I was in Cartagena, but I talked to some other people who had taken an afternoon tour there. It can be a nice experience!
If you like ice cream Crepes and Wafles have yummy big ice creams, and it seems to always be busy.

thanks to both of you for the info. Re: the mud vulcano: Can you just catch a van in Cartagena that will take you to the volcano or do you go to a tour agency? Assume there is some security at the volcano to lock up your valuables?
