Im planning to do a trip round South America for 8 months.
I want to know if US$8-10,000 would be enough money?
My plans roughly are to go to Rio (for carnival), onto foz do iguacu, floria up the eastern coast to salvador (by postings here - fly from rio). follow the coast to Manaus, fly?? to Columbia and follow the coast through Equador, onto Peru to the manchu walk.
Onto Sucre down to Chile, to Agentina and back up the coast to Rio.
Is 8 months enough time? What is a good account on budget? Is US$8-10,000 enough?
I know its full of great things in South America, but cant list them all, but is there anything I shouldn't miss, or recommend anything?
was suppose to do this with a mate, but he's pulled out, so Im flying solo...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thankyou

The ballpark figure for South America is 30.00 US$ per day.

A nice trip could be combine Andes, with lowlands and beaches. For example u can arrive to Bs As and head to northwestern Argentina and from there jump to Bolivia and finally reach Peru. From there and after visiting Machu Pichu u can exchange the hard mountains for the hard amazonic rainforest, descending the Uyacali river until Iquitos where u are already on the Amazon river. From there u can navigate the amazon all the way down using regular boats making stops in Leticia, the safest Colombia (where u can visit the Amacayacu National Park), and once in Brasil, I would stop in Tefé, Manaus, Santarem and finally Belem on the very mouth of the Amazon river. From there starts the relax part, because u can descend to Rio de Janeiro along the coast, visiting key places as Sao Luis, Salvador de Bahia, etc...
I've been in many of these places in different trips, but my dream is revisit them in a long distance circuit appreciating the lanscape and cultural transitions between the places. I dunno...it's just an idea!
