Hi there,

I am disappointed to learn that there are no more passes available for trekking the Inca Trail around July or August. I think September is nearly all booked out also. I am still planning to visit Cusco and Machu Pichu etc. but had my heart set on doing the traditional 4 day trek. I may now consider to other treks in early August.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so did you manage to figure a way around it.
Tour companies may have bulk booked these passes, so if anyone…

Hello

We are arriving in Lima at 23hr on 8th November and want to catch the 5.50am flight to Cuzco on 9th. I just went to book the tickets on the internet but it says:

"Passengers may pick up their Star Perú’ tickets 2 hours before departure at the Airport with the print of the reservation and the original document given at the purchase."

I could be wrong but this seems to indicate that an email ticket / receipt might not be valid. Obviously I don't want to risk buying our tickets only for us not…

I will be in Cusco for the June 24 festival of Inti Raymi. I have heard that it is very crowded and there is a lot of overpricing. Does anyone have positive comments about the festival? We are already booked for the 24th and 25th, but we could move on to Puno if advised. This is possibly a matter of personal taste and difficult to know until you experience the festival. If you have seen the festival, do you advise purchasing seats or just going early to view the activities? The last…

Anyone know of any outfits that do hot air ballooning in either Peru or Ecuador? I know of the Globos de los Andes in Peru but they aren't running this year.

Thanks very much

Hi,

I'll be travelling to Peru for 10 days in September. I will be going to the Inca Trail for 4 days of course, but I was wondering if anyone can recommend anything else around Sacred Valley or Lima? I was thinking about doing a Amazon trip to Manu or Tambopata? BUT I AM TERRIFIED OF SNAKES! I cannot even look at pictures of them... not too sure if thats a good idea? Should I just buck up and go? Any thoughts for this 25 year old Canadian?

Thx in advanced!!

Hiya,

A friend just retured from SA and while in Machu Pichu heard from several locals and travellers that Machu Pichu would be closed for 2-3 weeks during Feb/March 2008 for restoration works to the roads. I'd like to think my friend is having his leg pulled but thought i'd check anyways as this is the time I am planning on being there... Any other travellers heard anything similiar?

Do I have to do the Inca Trail to visit Wiñay Wayna? Or is it possible to check the site out as a side trip from Machu Picchu?

Normally, I do not write about travel-related theft because theft happens every day, everywhere, in any country. However, because this one occurred in a hotel and seemed to be an in-house job by the hotel staff, I feel that it is necessary to write it down so that other ravellers who choose to stay at this place are duly warned about the risk they are in. The items that were stolen from my backpack were a cellphone, $62 in cash, two compact flash cards, and 4 rechargeable batteries. Othere…

I dislike vaccinatons and would prefer to avoid having them. But Lonely Planet seems to suggest that they are a necessary precaution...

Has anybody travelled to Latin America without their Hep. and Yellow Fever vaccines? Any horror stories out there? Anything otherwise?

I'll be visiting either Peru or Bolivia for just shy of three weeks, and I will certainly be entering the Amazon jungle at one point or another.

I am not too concerned about getting sick, but I'll leave that to your discretions…
