Hi everyone
I need some advice..before giving up hope to see Macchu Picchu. I am going to be in Salta in July and i will have about a week before flying back to Europe. I won't have time for a more complete visit of Perù but i would like to see at least Macchu Picchu. I have done some research and it seems complicated and expensive (lots of flights and about 2 days' time). Should I forget about it or does anyone know of affordable alternatives? any existing bus service to Puno or Cusco? (I already visited Bolivia and San Pedro de Atacama area in Chile in the past).
I m healthy and flexible, i don't mind long bus trips... but I am 59.. so I feel I should make the most of my time before travelling at high altitudes becomes too difficult . I haven't bought intercontinental flights yet so i might consider a multiple destination ticket.
Thank you for your help and suggestions

Its either going to be an expensive journey or a long bus ride. Either way, its up to you to determine if its worth it.

You can fly - Go to BA, then to Lima, then to Cusco. And then you have to train to Aguas Caliente.

The other option is to Bus to the border of Bolivia, then bus to La Paz, and from La Paz to Cusco.

If you haven't seen Isla del Sol you could do that to break up the journey a bit (but you have been to Bolivia so I'd say you have).

I'd be looking at buses and I'd break up the journey somewhere. Even if you've visited before and its for a day. Or have a few days in Cusco.

It would involve a few flights, but I really don't think you need to go through Buenos Aires. You could take bus overland into Bolivia to Uyuni, do a half day tour of the Uyuni salt flats, then fly Uyuni to La Paz, or get an overnight bus to La Paz. From La Paz, you'd fly to Cusco, Peru.

You'd need to have your Machu Picchu tickets and Perurail train tickets reserved in advance, and you'd need to have your flights bought in advance too.

Mstep, the OP has said he's already visited San Pedro and Bolivia - so not sure if going for a day trip to Uyuni would be 'worth it'.

I would only go via BA if the flight made me go that way to connect to an intl flight. There is one flight to Lima from Salta and also to Santa Cruz in Bolivia (out of the way). You could bus to Sucre then fly from Sucre to La Paz and onto Cusco from there. It might be cheaper to do an internal flight in Bolivia.

My mistake. I reread the OP and correct. That makes it even easier, because the OP can go to Tupiza by bus and fly to La Paz from Tupiza instead of Uyuni.

I will look into flights from BA then. It seems at some "mysterious times"every now and then a good fare for multiple destinations shows up. I'll wait a few months. It's too early now to get a discounted quotation..I see
Thank you both!
